The first full-fledged Icfai Republic School (IRS) was started in 2004 to provide quality English medium education, free of cost, to the children living in Fatehnagar, Hyderabad and surrounding areas with a large concentration of very low-income families. The IRS, Fatehnagar presently has nearly 1000 students from Nursery to Class X. Apart from free education and nutritious food, these students get textbooks, notebooks, shoes and socks, uniforms and all required stationery at highly subsidized rates. The nominal amount that is collected from them is given back in the form of gifts, prizes and cash awards, thereby, making education practically free for them.
A free medical diagnosis clinic has been started in the IRS premises at Fatehnagar from December 2005 for the benefit of the poor and destitute in the locality. It functions 3 days a week in the evenings manned by a qualified medical practitioner.
The second IRS was started in August 2005 for the children of the labourers engaged in construction work at the Icfai Business School campus site at Dontaanapalli, about 40 kms away from Hyderabad. The school has nearly 120 children who have been categorized into various levels according to their age and ability to internalize what is taught. These children receive education, uniforms, milk and fruits completely free of cost.
On May 15, 2006, IRS started the 'IRS Knights - A Night School'. IRS Knights is open especially for out of school children like the ones who have discontinued their studies, those who are over-aged and those who never went to school for various reasons.
